Join Arts + Literature Laboratory in creating an Art Activity Zine for Black and Pink Milwaukee incarcerated members! This workshop is perfect for community members interested in learning more about prison-industrial-complex abolition work.

This zine will be distributed by Black and Pink to their incarcerated members, and potentially in the future through LGBT Books to Prisoners! Incarcerated members are looking for accessible and creative activities they can engage with in prison. This zine will be a "how-to" guide of how to create art in prison. Some templates will be available for participants to build off of, or artists are welcome to design their own zine pages based on the parameters of art-making in prison. As we create this zine, we’ll be mindful that incarcerated folks often only have access to lined paper and pens (start brainstorming creative ways to utilize these materials—your favorite pen and paper art projects that they might be able to do). Even blank paper (and other supplies) can be difficult to get. We can use a variety of mediums for our zine contributions, being mindful that the final product will be printed in black and white and mailed to incarcerated members.

Black & Pink Milwaukee is a chapter of Black and Pink located in Milwaukee, WI, dedicated to supporting and raising awareness towards LGBTQ and other prisoners. Black and Pink is a United States prison abolitionist organization supporting LGBTQ+ and HIV-positive prisoners. The group organizes a pen pal program, distributes a prisoner-written newspaper to its incarcerated members, provides court accompaniment, and educates people on their rights.

Currently incarcerated people can send general postal mail, letters, artwork, and requests to: Black and Pink: Milwaukee PO BOX 12244 Milwaukee, WI 53212
