Description

Write love letters to yourself, to loved ones, to your community! Join artist Borealis for a few quick poem writing exercises before collaging greeting cards centered around these poetic sentiments. (Don't worry, you'll get those ideas flowing in no time!) We will experiment—this is not a time to be precious. We will take turns using the electric typewriter, so expect some clanking-typing sounds popping up here and there. We will add sparkle, watercolor, mixed paper collage, and more. We will remember how to be in space with one another, practicing all of our best conversational skills and catching up on the last year. We'll hold space for one another and have a good time! Expect to pull from our growing stash of studio scraps—if you have favorite paper scraps, magazines, plastic scraps, bits of thread, etc, please feel free to bring along for the collage party. Show up knowing that we're all bringing something special to the group dynamic.

Teaching artist Borealis centers their practice on the queer art of care. Learn more about their community-centered process by reading this feature on Madison Magazine. Check out their web shop for examples of projects or their artist website for more information about their practice. Cover photo is by Nicole Hansen Photography.
