Description

Join M.Rose Sweetnam in a movement-based workshop centered on imagining a safe, healthy, and vibrant future! This dance and movement workshop is perfect for community members interested in learning more about mutual aid, abolition, and community care through practices of embodiment. Expect a combination of fun, improvisational theater games and contemplative meditations that get us closer to ourselves, each other, and our collective visions for our future. Some movement activities will be inspired by the text Emergent Strategy by adrienne maree brown. Dress comfortably and for the weather, if possible. Expect some interaction with peer classmates as you create shapes and gestures together. All abilities and mobility aids welcome in this accessible class.

This is a 1.5 hour, mixed ages workshop for youth as young as ten years and adults of all ages! Space is limited, so be sure to enroll each participant individually to ensure that there is space. (Guardians who intend to stick around should also enroll.) Participants should arrive with the understanding that this is an intergenerational workshop centering gentle instruction for all ages.

This is an IN-PERSON, OUTDOOR workshop; will be held near one of our learning garden sites downtown or on the near east side. Exact location and remaining logistics will be emailed to participants prior to the start of class. Please arrive wearing masks. This workshop may be rescheduled due to inclement weather or any changing public health guidelines.
