Join M.Rose Sweetnam for a mixed media visual arts + writing class imagining a safe, healthy, and vibrant future through food! This workshop will use the metaphors inherent in food, cooking, and food systems to imagine the kind of future we want to build together. Participants will be invited to contribute to a community zine, but may choose to focus on solo projects as they like. Feel free to bring your own sketchbook or choose from our materials on hand. Expect introspective reflection, group conversation, relaxed art time, and information sharing about local food justice efforts that truly translate to justice for all. Guests may even have an opportunity to get their hands in the dirt of one of our learning gardens sites!
This is a 1.5 hour, mixed ages workshop for youth as young as ten years and adults of all ages! Space is limited, so be sure to enroll each participant individually to ensure that there is space. (Guardians who intend to stick around should also enroll.) Participants should arrive with the understanding that this is an intergenerational workshop centering gentle instruction for all ages.
This is an IN-PERSON, OUTDOOR workshop; will be held near one of our learning garden sites downtown or on the near east side. Exact location and remaining logistics will be emailed to participants prior to the start of class. Please arrive wearing masks. This workshop may be rescheduled due to inclement weather or any changing public health guidelines.
