Description

This program is no longer accepting registrations.

For the Anishinaabe and Metis, as well as other Indigenous peoples of Turtle Island, our colors physically come from the world around us. Students will learn about, gather, and process dye plants from the Indigenous lifeways gardens. They will then dye mashkinoozhi//musky fish scales for with the dyes created in class to create traditional Metis floral designs based on the plants from which the dyes originate.

This sliding scale programs runs over two Friday sessions and is FREE FOR NATIVE FAMILIES; all other participants must enroll at the minimum sliding scale fee to honor Native artists' labor bringing this program to our community.

This two-class workshop is for artists ages 10 years to adult. Space is limited, so be sure to enroll each participant individually to ensure that there is space. (Guardians who intend to stick around must also enroll.) Participants should arrive with the understanding that this is an intergenerational workshop centering gentle instruction for all ages. Unless you are a Native family intending to enroll guardians, please do not register youth younger than 10 years, as the content may not be developmentally appropriate for their learning.

This is an IN-PERSON, OUTDOOR workshop for kids and adults. This workshop will be held outside Goodman Community Center and is limited to ten participants, so expect an intimate and flexible learning atmosphere. This workshop may be rescheduled due to inclement weather or any changing public health guidelines. Exact workshop navigation details will be emailed to participants prior to the session.

Important: non-Native families must enroll at a fee to honor Native teaching artist's labor. Native families can enroll at the free tuition level. Scholarships may be available for youth from low-income families; contact [email protected] to arrange.
