ALL Youth + Mixed Ages Spring 2021

Arts + Literature Laboratory will host these programs online this Spring 2021

These online programs are designed to cultivate relationships, focus, and technical arts skills through live online gatherings with a social justice focus.

CLASSES: By expanding our academic year course offerings to stretch out over a season (rather than our previous monthly model) young artists will have an opportunity to find depth in creative processes while establishing meaningful relationships with peers and teaching artists. Program offerings reflect age-appropriate screen-time practices and digital literacy outcomes.

PODS: Virtual pods are visual, literary, performing, and digital arts classes for all ages, customized to meet your group’s learning needs. Classes are taught live (online) by experienced teaching artists. From one-time workshops to weekly recurring programs, the number of sessions is determined by your group’s interests; each meeting is 1.5 hours long. Groups may sign up for private sessions or request to be paired up with students with similar interests from around the community. Click the pod profile / interest form at the button below to begin the registration process and to be matched with a local artist.

FEES: These seasonal programs are available at a sliding scale. Free enrollment options are possible thanks to funding support from American Girl Fund for Children, Wisconsin Arts Board, and Dane Arts. Scholarship options are available for youth from low- to no-income situations, and for all classes. For free enrollment in Indigenous Arts (available to Native students) or scholarship information for other programs, contact [email protected].

MATERIALS and TECH: Some courses have the option to purchase materials kits while enrolling, which will be available for curbside pick-up; for families who do not wish to purchase a kit, instructors will provide suggested supplies lists prior to the start of class. Indigenous Arts and Printmaking for the People have a required materials fee due to the instructor labor involved in harvesting natural materials. Courses with digital art-making emphasis will utilize free online software to complete course activities. All classes are designed to be accessible via MMSD-issued Chromebooks.
